Professor Gómez conducts research, teaching and engagement activities in the area of Food and Agricultural Economics, more specifically on issues concerning performance of food supply chains as well as applied industrial organization and quantitative marketing in markets for food products. The geographic focus of his research is domestic and international, the later emphasizing the food sector in Latin America. At Cornell, he teaches a graduate level course on the Economics of Consumer Demand in the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management. His engagement activities are primarily conducted through Cornell Cooperative Extension and his efforts in this area aim at enhancing market opportunities for horticultural products (fruits, vegetables and ornamentals), benefiting producers, food processors/distributors and consumers worldwide. He is affiliated with the Food Industry Management Program, the Systems Engineering Program, and the Latin American Studies program. Professor Gómez also contributes to a variety of food executive education programs in the United States, Latin America and Asia.
